More pictures from the vault – year 9 or 10 art classes this time all in oil pastel. This is a great medium when learning to draw and to transition from pencil to paint because you
- Don’t need to wait for the paint to dry
- You can blend a little
- It’s fast and easy to lay down colour
- The colour stays in one spot (unlike watercolour)
- It’s portable and easy to carry, no mess
- Quick and easy
Most of these I’m just drawing what I see and testing out the medium.

Testing out the metallic oil pastels

Painting what I see

This piece evolved from a point pot fill of brushes to a person with crazy hair and face.
Fast picture:

Again I didn’t know what to draw so I just drew my friend’s sneaker.
Perhaps I might try out oil pastels again as a medium but this time use it like solid paint.
I also have watercolour sticks that look a lot like oils pastels so could be used in the same way but you could then wet it and create different effects.
