Just bought a new case from Temu hoping it would be a suitable replacement for my DIY art tool case. Art tool cases or any A5 folio or compendiums cover with zips are hard to find online. I’ve been searching for ages for something close to the My first plein air kit Watercolour travel kits – tools for Plein air painting that allow you to hold watercolour journals (A5 and A6) and supplies (mini pallette and brushes, pens) so that you don’t need to unload each time but can just open create then close quickly without losing anything are really hard to find.
This case on them was the closest I could find. Other folios appeared to be too thin and noticed that my current one was at least 2cm thick which allows me to bring water with me.
When it arrived it appears to be too big being closer to 5cm thick to be bring with me regularly or fit into my bag. It is quite squishy and has no structure unlike my existing DIY journal so might still fit in my bag.
Since this wasn’t a great replacement for my regular watercolour Plein air kit I decided to repurpose this for my daughter’s creative bible and also set it up with the mini paint also from Temu using my Velcro dots. Tested it out with old watercolour brushes and brush water pens. If it works well I can always swap out the bible for an A5 watercolour journal.

Update. The case itself is quite flimsy so the been water tends to move around or need sto be on a flat surface. The bible itself is very thin so to paint on it I find I had to paint a few layers of transparent watercolour ground first let it dry in-between which makes the whole experience less spontaneous than just doing art in your normal devotion time.
I think it could work if you were going through a set bible reading plan you could prepare the pages ahead of time. You look to the next reading and paint it with watercolour ground at the end of the session so it has time to dry for the next day. If you have it open somewhere in the house you could also do a more few coats during the day. Or just use a hair dryer!
